Established in 2015, the Bread of Life Mobile Food Pantry is a joint project of Harrisburg FUMC’s food pantry ministry and the Arkansas State University Wesley Foundation. This food pantry on wheels is sponsored by the United Methodist Foundation of Arkansas and the Northeast District of the United Methodist Church. In 2019, the Mobile Food Pantry received a grant from the United Way of Northeast Arkansas to continue our work in the five counties we serve. In the spring semester of 2016, the food pantry delivered food to 2 year college campuses in Newport, Marked Tree, and Beebe along with helping with the Backpacks for Kids program at Harrisburg Elementary School.
Much has changed in the years since our launch, Bread of Life Mobile is tackling 5 campuses in Northeast Arkansas. ASU- Marked Tree, ASU-Newport, ASUN-Jonesboro, and Black River Technical College campuses in Pocahontas and Paragould. At each campus, local congregations provide volunteer support by distributing packed grocery sacks and collecting information from students. Two year college students only need to bring their student ID in order to receive groceries once a month on their campus.
Students from the Wesley Foundation at A-State pack grocery sacks on Wednesday afternoons at 3:15pm at Cornerstone United Methodist Church. See our facebook page to check out our delivery schedule. For more information or to get involved, contact Sam Meadors at firstname.lastname@example.org.
